What is an IPL Treatment? Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments have been popular for quite some time now, and its popularity is only increasing- rightfully so! Treatments are becoming more and more advanced, and can produce spectacular results.

What exactly is IPL, what does it do and how does it do it? IPL is a treatment most well-known for hair removal, but it also very effective for skin rejuvenation. For those of you with age spots, rosacea, sun damage and other skin conditions, IPL may be the ideal solution for you. Treatments require little to no downtime, are non-invasive and can provide instant results, although 3-6 sessions may be recommended.

How does an IPL machine work? IPL exposes the desired treatment area to high intensity pulses of visible light with a wavelength spectrum spanning from 420nm to1200nm. The light eats the hair follicle or skin, which in turn breaks down/damages specific target areas without affecting surrounding areas. IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique. This means that it only targets the lower layers of skin (dermis) and doesn’t damage top layers of skin (epidermis). Due to the broad spectrum of light, IPL can treat a vast array of skin issues and it is safe and effective to use on a broad range of skin types and hair colours.
